The news that emerged from the loan mouth of the Wycombe MD on Thursday, namely that Wycombe Wanderers would still lose money even if they managed to pack out Adams Park every week is something that takes a lot of thinking about.

The glory days of Rod Tomlin (for that is what they now are) saw statements along the lines that if Wycombe could just squeeze 6,500 fans through the gates then no longer would the bank manager be driving up and down Hillbottom Road in a fast van. But somehow, SOMEHOW, even a 10k bumper BFP crowd would now still see Wanderers leak money like a river in a satchel.

It is now clear that anyone who has ever, EVER said that “Wasps can only be good for Wycombe Wanderers” is so wrong that they should be tied to a chair and glued to a high speed railway line. Facing the wrong way. Maybe without Wasps’ money the end would come sooner, but like Bad Ken shooting up Afghan brown, it’s only delaying the inevitable.

Here is the truth: Wycombe Wanderers are now ruined. They are not viable anymore and the sooner they are closed down and restarted at the bottom of the football pyramid the better. A few years living on Wasps’ coattails in a soulless leisure park would be like watching your own weeping grandmother on the game. Far better to pull the trigger now. The only “Reading” that Wycombe are going to do in the near future is a teary one at their own funeral. We were right all along.
